Wrapping up an interview? This is your moment to impress the interviewer, show your interest, and gather all the details you need to make your own decision. Here are 20+ questions you can ask - and some to steer clear from!

Culture Questions

  • What is the onboarding process like for new employees?

  • May I ask why this position is vacant?

  • Can you describe your personal favourite day working at this company so far?

  • What do you like about working here?

  • I noticed you put a lot of emphasis on inclusion and diversity/corporate social responsibility/gender equality (pick one), can you tell me a little more about how this is implemented?

  • What do you and the team usually do for lunch?

Company questions

  • Where do you think the company is headed in the next five years?

  • What are the current goals that the company is focused on, and how does this team work to support hitting those goals?

  • What gets you the most excited about the company’s future?

  • I noticed in the news that you're expanding your XYZ product line. Can you tell me a little more about how this plays into your strategy?

  • Tell me about some of the organisation's recent milestones or accomplishments.

  • How does the performance review process work?

Questions about the Role

  • Who would I report directly to?

  • Can you tell me a little more about the team I’d be working with daily?

  • What would you like me to accomplish in the first 90 days with your company?

  • What mistakes have new hires made, and how can I learn from them?

  • What does a typical day look like in this role?

  • Can you describe an example of a project I’d be working on?

  • Can you describe some of the habits of your most successful employees?

Benefits Questions

  • I read on your company website that you offer comprehensive wellness benefits, can you tell me a little more about that?

  • Can you tell me about any opportunities you offer for training and progression?

Questions you NEED to ask

  • May I send a thank you note? (if unsure where to send it)

  • Is there anything else I can provide you with that would be helpful?

  • When can I expect to hear back about next steps?

DO NOT ask 🚩

  • About specific time off requests/vacation you have booked (this can wait until later).

  • “When can I start?” (Comes across as cocky).

  • What does [company] do? (Shows you haven't done your research).
